Art Action

The deadline date for contributions has now passed and we are no longer accepting new work
" ART ACTION! Turning the tide against climate change."
RAG PRINCIPLES

Through collective creative work we aim to make a clear statement against climate change, the activities causing it and the industries profiting from climate abuse.

We recognise that the extent and effects of climate change are consistently understated by politicians and official scientific reports, and that climate change is the most serious and urgent global problem we face. In response, radical change is necessary now. At every level of society, this is a challenge to us all collectively and individually. It demands huge leaps of imagination and action far beyond the initial steps of changing light-bulbs and carbon offsetting.

EXHIBITION AIMS

Through this exhibition we hope to inform and inspire the people viewing it and participating within it. We intend to communicate a clear message against climate change which is not abstract or ambiguous. Our exhibition is part of a grass-roots movement of creative resistance to the unsustainable and unjust economic system placing profits before the essential elements of life which support our lives and our world.

We hope that you will bring to this exhibition artwork that complements our principles, and that the theme and our curating will complement your artwork.

CRITERIA

RAG will not display:

  • Works that contradict it's principles
  • Works that exceed dimensions of exhibition space, or that we consider might impede viewers access to the other works on display
  • Works that we consider to be unstable or unsafe, (practically speaking), as imposed by common sense, and the exhibition site.

Work may be in any medium.

We do not wish to dictate the sort of artwork that you will produce, because your creative decisions really rest within you, the artist, and we don't want to interfere. But for anyone reading this who's interested in how we think the exhibition might lay out, and who will not let it smother their artistic plans, read on;

Some of the work may reflect the beauty and fragility of our planet, the vulnerability of it's occupants, and the delicate balance in which life is held. Other work may appear in stark contrast to this by exclaiming of destruction, or waste. There may be works that question the viewers own ambivalence towards improving the future for our planet. Work may be daringly confrontational. Some may plainly illustrate the perpetrators of damage and the causes of global warming. Some may impress some possible solutions.

We hope that we will be able to fit everybody's work in. If we have to select work from a large quantity of entries, then we will try to do so in such a way as to create the sort of exhibition that really conveys our principles.

A FEW IMPORTANT POINTS
ABOUT EVENTS;

We will hold a launch event for the exhibition on Saturday 8th September. We will email a flier to all artists so that you may print your own copies. You should feel free to invite friends, family and contacts along.

If you would like to perform at the launch, please contact us to arrange this.

If you are thinking of planning a workshop, fringe event, or related activity that would complement the exhibition, please get in touch.

ABOUT MONEY;

We are not asking artists for a fee to exhibit artwork, but any contribution you can make towards our costs will count towards the success of the event. Please give what you can afford.

Our primary aim is not to sell artwork, but to raise the issue of climate change to visitors in a creative and diverting way! If you wish to sell your work please quote your price on the attached form. R.A.G. will take a 33% commission on any work sold, so please add that to your price.

ABOUT YOUR WORK;

All work needs to be clearly labelled with its title and your name. Either write on the back or attach the details securely.

Please ensure that your work is ready to hang, stand, or play.

We cannot provide plinths, film projection equipment etc. We will have the basic kit, but if you want to ensure that your work is not gaffer taped to the wall at the last minute, then please give serious consideration to how you want your work presented, and bring the appropriate fittings and fixtures along.

It is not the responsibility of RAG to insure your artwork. We will make every pactical effort to protect your work, but we will accept no liability for lost, damaged or stolen artwork or equipment that you have left in our care. If you are unhappy with any aspect of our care for your artwork in transition, storage or display then please speak up sooner, rather than later.

If the work is an installation please estimate how long your set up will take. We may need to negotiate a time when you can do this.

FINALLY, IN KEEPING WITH OUR PRINCIPLES;

We aim to make the exhibitions impact on the environment minimal, so we ask that as a participant you will consider all aspects of your involvement in the show, and make reasonable attempt to choose and use materials, and travel to and from the venue, in the greenest practical way.
