About Us

We are a group of people living in Portsmouth who have come together to work creatively on the issue of climate change. This exhibition is our first project as a group. We are an autonomous group which means we are fully independent and have no connection with any particular political or religious organisation.

Between us we have a varied and diverse experience in making art, community development and activism. Other things that some of us have done are:

  • Curating & running art exhibitions
  • Setting up a community library & information centre
  • Creating a regular community café event
  • Working with asylum seekers
  • Providing breastfeeding support & forming groups/events
  • Producing a small women's magazine
  • Organising against war

Last August one of us did a lone sponsored bicycle ride from Southampton to Glastonbury in support of Rising Tide, the network of groups against climate change who toured their challenging and inspiring 'Art Not Oil' exhibition.

Some of us also took part in the Camp For Climate Action in Yorkshire which brought public attention to Drax power station, the largest single emitter of CO2 in Britain. We are going again this year from August 14th-21st. Contact us if you'd like to travel together from Portsmouth.

As some of us have young children we are acutely aware of the future we are creating for them to live in. Therefore our Footprints Project which intends to engage children of all ages with this issue is particularly important to us.

Above all, we are each committed to a world which can continue to support the rich diversity of life on Earth. A world which still has polar bears and rainforests. A world where the millions of people in the poorer countries of the world are not the disposable price we pay for not acting today to stop climate change. A world where Portsmouth isn't a drowned city beneath the rising sea level. No matter where or how we live, every one of us will face the consequences of our acting now or our not acting. There is still time, but it is rapidly running out...
